Publishing Your Web Site

Getting your Website put on the Internet is a very easy process. Just follow the Instructions below and your site will be on the Web in no time.

There are a variety of programs available to make designing a Website easy and fun. Even Microsoft Word, Publisher, Pagemaker and Corel Draw have features that will allow you to "export" or save your document as an "html" document that will be viewable on the Internet. Make sure the first page of your document is called index.html so it will load or be viewable right away when someone types in your Website address. If you have Platinum service with us, your Website location is www.ixpres.com/username, where the username is normally your Login ID or primary e-mail name. If you have Domain Hosted service with us, your Website location is www.yourdomain.com.

Once your site is designed, you need to transfer the information from your computer to ours. If you haven't got an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program that you like, download WS_FTP by clicking on the image below.

Unzip and install the program on your computer. When you start the program, you will see the screen below.

Type in the information as it appears above. Type in your username in "User ID:" and your password in "Password:". Check the "Save Pwd" box so you don't have to type in your password every time you start this program. Press "OK" when you are done and the screen below will appear.

The box on the left is your computer. The box on the right is our Webserver. WS_FTP automatically routes you to your "folder" or storage area on our Webserver. Whether you have Platinum service with us or a Domain Hosted service, the information relating to your Website will be stored in this folder. You can create as many subdirectories as you like by pressing the "MkDir" button.

To transfer a file from your computer to the Webserver, bring the file up in the box on the left. Clicking on drive letters or folders, opens them. Clicking on the green arrow brings you up one level. Once the file is visible in the left box, highlight it by clicking on it once. Next, press the arrow in the center pointing to the right box. Your file will be copied to the Webserver.

Note: If your Web pages have pictures or other files associated with them, you must transfer them over in the same directory structure as when you designed the page on your computer. I.E. If all of the pictures on your Website are stored in a folder called "images", you must create a folder on our Webserver called "images" and put all of your pictures there or your Website won't be able to find your pictures.

If you want to transfer files from the Webserver back to your computer, just highlight the file and press the arrow pointing left.

That's all it takes to get your Website on the Internet. If you have any questions regarding these instructions, please direct them to techsupport@internetexpress.com.
